Celebrate Saint-Jean-Baptiste with help from OnStar

June 24, 2024

Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day marks the start of summer. Learn how OnStar can help you enjoy your day off to the fullest.

As summer approaches, there’s one date in particular you may be looking forward to: Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day. Held annually on June 24, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day is one of the biggest celebrations of the year for Francophone Canadians. Although it has a special importance in Quebec — the day is known as Fête Nationale du Québec — it’s celebrated all across the country. With tons of local festivities to choose from, OnStar can help make your outings go more smoothly. Check out our tips below.

1. Take us with you on your phone

Whether you plan to attend a local parade, a fireworks show, a barbecue with friends or a picnic at the park, take advantage of the OnStar Guardian® app* for access to key OnStar safety services outside your vehicle. It’s always smart to have a designated meeting spot when you’re out with a group, but if you get lost or are unsure of where your group is, try using the app’s Location Status* feature. You and up to seven loved ones* can view and share locations on a live map.

You can also use the app to contact an OnStar Emergency-Certified Advisor* if you run into trouble while you’re out and about. Learn more about the Guardian app and download it today.

2. Beat the traffic

If you plan to travel on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, don’t let traffic deter you from enjoying yourself. By using Turn-by-Turn Navigation,* you can be connected to an Advisor who may be able to provide an alternative route to get you moving again. The Advisor can also access a database of over 1 million businesses and landmarks — even locations that don’t have an address.

3. Make sure you have data for your trip

With a Connected Vehicle plan,* your vehicle can help you and your passengers stay in touch, thanks to the available in-vehicle Wi-Fi® Hotspot.* Along the way, passengers can connect their phones or tablets to the hotspot to play games or stream videos. Once you’ve parked at your destination, you can still use the hotspot — maybe to video chat with friends celebrating back at home. You can connect up to seven compatible devices to the hotspot from up to 15 metres away from your vehicle.

4. Take advantage of your app

With your vehicle mobile app,* you can get an extra helping hand with your vehicle. For instance, you can use the app to check your vehicle’s estimated fuel level or tire pressure (if properly equipped) or even book service right through the app. If you’re out and about, Vehicle Locate* lets you request your vehicle’s location and see it on a map. You can also use the app to remotely lock and unlock your doors or even start the engine* (if properly equipped) before you hit the road. Learn more about your vehicle mobile app and download it today.

5. Be prepared for the unexpected

Whether it’s a dead battery, a flat tire or another problem requiring a tow, you can push your blue OnStar button for Roadside Assistance,* and an Advisor can request help for you based on your location. You can also request Roadside Assistance* through the Guardian app. Simply tap the Roadside Assistance button in the app and select the service you require, and OnStar will dispatch help to your location. Learn more about requesting Roadside Assistance.

6. Keep an eye out

If you see any fellow travellers in need of help, be a Good Samaritan. After all, First Responders can’t respond to an emergency if they don’t know about it. Push your red Emergency button* on their behalf, and an OnStar Advisor can request help for them — whether they’re an OnStar Member or not. You can be a Good Samaritan any day of the year, anytime you see someone in need of assistance!

7. Find what you need

Whether you need to fill up with gas or grab takeout from a restaurant, assistance is only a button-push away. Just push your blue OnStar button and ask a friendly Advisor to recommend nearby businesses or landmarks and provide directions to the one you choose. With more than 1 million points of interest in the database, you’re sure to find your next stop. Just be sure to double-check whether your intended destination is open!
