How to Maximize Being an OnStar Member
As an OnStar Member with an active, eligible Safety & Security Plan,*3 you know you can get help if you’re involved in a crash,*12 or if you need Roadside Assistance.*13 But there’s so much more to being a Member. Here are a couple of easy steps to take to get the most out of OnStar.
Update your information: Being involved in a crash can be a frightening and disorienting experience. Adding an emergency contact to your OnStar account, whether it’s a spouse, friend or loved one, can ease some of that anxiety, allowing the OnStar Advisor to get them on the line for you if something happens.
Take Guardian on the go: Download the OnStar Guardian™ app*58 to get added peace of mind in the palm of your hand. Whether you’re in a friend’s car, in a ride-share, or out walking or biking, the Guardian app gives you access to a number of features, including the ability to call an Advisor from the app.
Store our number: Save our toll-free number, 1.888.4ONSTAR (1.888.466.7827), as a contact in your phone or carry it in your wallet so you can get in touch with us if you lock your keys in your vehicle and need it unlocked. If your vehicle is stolen, you first need to report it to the police. Once a report has been filed, if you have a paid, eligible plan, you can call our toll-free number and have an Advisor assist police in attempting to locate and recover your vehicle.*14
Sign up for Theft Alarm Notification: If you have the Safety & Security Plan, you can sign up to receive alerts if your vehicle alarm goes off. Theft Alarm Notification*15 will let you know if your alarm sounds, giving you a chance to react quickly and alert authorities.
Be a Good Samaritan: As an OnStar Member, you can use the service to help others — even if they don’t have OnStar. Push your red Emergency Button*12 to help stranded motorists, report a crash along your route or even get help for a lost animal. Being a Good Samaritan is a great way to use OnStar to help make the road safe for everyone.
Crisis Assist can help in unexpected situations: When severe weather, a natural disaster or another crisis strikes, our Advisors are right there with you. Working with First Responders, we’ll assist you with information, special routing and a reassuring human voice — we can even help you stay in touch with loved ones.
