To use digital key, you must accept the OnStar User Terms and OnStar Services Consent and acknowledge the Privacy Statement. You need to have connectivity in your vehicle and download the vehicle mobile app.
You can share your digital key with up to three people across eight compatible devices. Recipients aren’t required to have the vehicle mobile app, but their devices must be UWB-capable.
If your phone stops working and you do not have the physical key fob with you, you’ll be able to continue driving the vehicle only until the next time you turn the vehicle off. At that point, you need to obtain the key fob or charge your phone to restart the vehicle. Select vehicles also come with a key card as a backup.
If you lose your phone, you can remove your key from your digital wallet by contacting your device manufacturer. After you’ve removed the key, you can complete the setup process to add digital key to another phone. As a backup, use the key card provided with your vehicle at purchase to access and start your vehicle. You can refer to the back of your key card for the location of the exterior key card reader, which varies by model. If you purchase a new phone, you’ll receive prompts to remove your key and transfer it to the new phone.
You can still use your digital key passive functionality to get in and lock your vehicle. However, active short-range commands will be affected.
If the timer shown on your centre display expires before you’ve started your vehicle, briefly hold the card up to the reader again to restart the timer.
Digital key allows you to perform some of the same short-range remote commands that are available in the vehicle mobile app (start/stop, lock/unlock) when you’re within Bluetooth range of the vehicle. The main difference is that with digital key, these functions are accessed through your digital wallet. Plus, users of digital key can drive the vehicle without needing the key fob. This function is not available in the vehicle mobile app.
No, presence-based hands-free closures will not currently operate with digital key. The hands-free liftgate function is supported only in vehicles equipped with kick-sensing technology.
Yes. For valet parking with digital key, simply give the valet attendant your backup key card, the same way you would a key fob.
